About Lilac Library

I love books. I’ve always been a voracious reader. I’ve always loved interesting words, great stories, and unforgettable characters. There’s nothing I love more than getting lost in a great book. Now that I’m a mama of three, I’ve been enjoying rediscovering all my old favorites from childhood. Books have taught me so much, and contributed so much to who I am as a person.

I began encountering many of these titles when we decided to homeschool, and I was exploring a literature-based homeschooling approach for our family. Highly respected Christian homeschool curriculum companies, who review thousands of books before making their choices, recommended many of the books that I’ve listed here. This list also includes books that were recommended to us, as well as books that our favorites in our family. Most of these books are for ages 3 to 8, although I personally believe the appropriate age for a book can vary widely. These books are primarily meant to be used for reading aloud together.  I definitely plan to add books for older children as well, so please feel free to email me your suggestions!

These books aren’t just for homeschool families- these are books for anyone who wants to expose their children to a wide variety of wonderful books!

I have not read all of these books, though I hope to. I have read many of them, and they have been delightful. I also read reviews of the books, looked at descriptions of the books on various websites, and looked at photographs of the illustrations before writing my own summary of each book. If you find content in any of these books to be of concern, please email me.

This seal marks books that our family has personally read-

I’m so excited to be able to share my passion for books with other families. Hope these books bring something special to your library times, cuddle-up times, read-aloud times, and family times!

What a nice place to come. I love books! I loved reading them as a child and my first “series” was Nancy Drew the 1970’s yellow hard cover set. After my son was born 11 years ago I shopped every antique store I could find and recovered all 54 books I had when I was a young girl. I have so many favorites. Thanks for encouraging families to read! Books are a wonderful way to spend time together and they take you to a place called “imagination”. After my kids were born I realized not only do I love to read but I love to write and I had forgotten that part of my passion until God reminded me with them. I now write children’s stories when I have the time which is very little. However, my kids ARE my future stories so I guess I am in the research phase of my future book! :) Thanks for putting this site out there. I’ll spread the word!
